It’s official: Pantone has announced it’s 2023 Color of the Year, and it represents balance - which we all know we could use right now. Viva Magenta was announced as Pantone’s 2023 Color of the Year on December 1st, and Pantone’s Executive Director noted that it’s a color that points to us building our ‘inner strength’.

While we typically might think of Magenta as a hot pink, Viva Magenta is a softer hue of the red family, but is still a balance between red and blue. If we take a look at this color using psychology, it becomes even more clear that 2023’s Viva Magenta is all about harmony. Red is a color of passion, strength, energy, confidence, and courage. On the other hand, blue is a color of cleanliness, tranquility, reliability, empathy, and peace. Don’t these descriptors give you a sense of optimism and hope? No wonder Pantone chose Viva Magenta for 2023.

Now let’s try to bring some of that optimism and hope into our own homes. What better way to do that than with flowers? It helps that flowers are known to be stress-reducing and creativity-boosting. Here’s some of our favorite floral arrangements featuring shades of magenta:

So much magenta, so much strength and cheer. Of course if you’re worried about incorporating this color into your decor, Pantone has provided a complimentary color palette to pair with Viva Magenta. Good news - since magenta is a balance of warm and cool tones, it can pair well with so many colors that you probably already have in your home. Here are some of Pantone’s picks: Pale Dogwood, Gray Sand, Gray Lilac, Pale Khaki, Fields of Rye, Agate Gray, and Plain Air.
